"...The result of having Willson & McKee at our school is that my students are much more musically educated and have gained an appreciation for the culture, instruments and music to which they were introduced during the residency. I have heard from many classroom teachers that they were very impressed with Willson & McKee; my principal stated that this was the best residency we have had at our school! -Mary Fechtelkotter Knollwood Elementary Rapid City SD |

A
Residency can range from 2-5+ days, and is a more in-depth experience for
students, teachers and artists. Four classrooms, (a core group) of
up to
120 (or so) students work with the artists to learn cultural and
performance
skills which
they
perform
in a
culminating
program
for
the community and/or their school. If
the residency is 3 days or longer, the artists meet with additional
students outside the core group, to
achieve as many student contacts within
a school as possible. These classes
can
be special
interest classes
or a combination of non-core group students. There
are 4 contact periods scheduled per day, these periods are 45 to
50 Minutes long. Each state has guidelines that we follow but typically,
the entire
student population gets at least one contact with the artists thru
the assemblies that
are included in the residency. Please see a sample schedule below.

To Whom It May Concern: It is my privilege to write this letter for artists, Willson & McKee. I have worked with Ken and Kim through our Artist-in-Residence Program. They have been a pleasure to work with in all capacities. They are conscientious artists who take pride in their musical and educational achievements. Ken & Kim relate well to all age groups; especially, children and teachers. They do an excellent job on integrating art into non-art areas and are a constant hit among schools. “It was great that you were able to get this caliber of expertise into our small school”, commented a parent. They are among a select few artists on our roster who choose to send pre-residency materials to school faculty. This type of for-thought allows children the ultimate experience as they are primed and prepared for the excited world of Celtic music when the artists arrive. I have always been impressed with the organizational and promotional skills of this group. Paperwork is prompt and telephone calls are always returned. They are consistent and dependable. Ken and Kim have fine moral character and are truly caring people. Their lighthearted way of using humor and fun while teaching or performing are refreshing. I recommend them for any residencies or performances in your state. The audiences (especially the children) will certainly benefit!
